The
comprehensive experience across Product, Exhibit, Graphic and Web
design disciplines over the past 20 years has provided a clear understanding
of design methodology from concept, development and production perspectives.
My participation in New York design firms covers a variety of team
settings and client interactions, including Ralph Applebaum Associates
who has an excellent reputation for Museum Exhibit Design; and Gordon
Randal Perry who produced designs featured in MOMA exhibits.
Management Experience
The
managerial roles have given me experience in product development,
project management, team building and strategic planning. I managed
a group of product development coordinators that gave me insight
into Marketing directives and Production constraints. The design
group that I currently oversee handles Web design, Audio-Visual
Packaging, Advertising, Books, and Magazines. (I developed a graphic
style manual to manage their organization identity elements in their
designs.) The web projects I managed include several sites for Self-Realization
Fellowship, including a web catalog in five languages with an administrative
backend to manage fulfillment and client interactions, an online
donation page, along with a catalog geared toward the book trade.
I have proposed a revamping of their main site, which grew in pieces
over time, to better integrate overall navigation and content management.
Communication
The
past three years of teaching design at college level have developed
my communication, mentoring and coaching skills to motivate and
direct students to achieve their best. In addition to design, I
teach them brainstorming techniques to jumpstart the creative process
and stimulate their imaginations.
